Kindle DX Demo
| Mar 20, 2010 | 25 comments
Brent P. Newhall demonstrates the new Kindle DX. This is particularly aimed at folks who want to see Kindle's E Ink screen in action, and how long is required to load pages. I demonstrate a regular Kindle book, a native PDF, and a web browser page. I also show all three in landscape as well as portrait mode.

hmm I don’t like the Qi screen, it’s almost like a mirror
My money’s on the Notion Ink Adam wiping the floor with the DX. The new Pixel Qi screens are going to rule 2010 and kill off eInk (IMHO).
@TennisChamp59 The iPad is multi media center that also has a dedicated iBook store and it’s a very capable reader, especially in low light areas where the Kindle Fails. If you say the Kindle is in it’s own class then as an Ebook Reader why the hell is it the same $500 price as the iPad that offers so much more. Who in hell is stupid enough to pay $500 for a gadget just to read books?
@macuser5555 Once again. . . the iPad is a tablet. The Kindle is an eBook reader.
ipad and kindle are different products. .
Very nice review, thank you. Unless something more powerful comes out soon I’ll probably go for this. The ipad is not a contender because it’s backlit.
Sorry, but this Kindle is hosed, now that the iPad is here. Sorry Amazon.
Now after watching this I have no idea why anyone would by this over the original kindle or an ipad.
Yep, fully possible! Either email it using your Kindle conversion email address, or transfer the file using USB. It’s explained in detail in the Kindle User’s Guide if you want more information. Hope this helps!
suppose, i want to read pdf file , how can i send pdf file form my computer to kindle? is it possible?
Thank you very much for the demo. It was really, the best i’ve watched from loads of videos talking about the Kindle DX.
Great!
Thanks again.
Thanks for the reply. I guess the people who cracked their kindles forced them open from the back side of the cover. I bought one anyway.
I have the Amazon cover for the DX, and my DX isn’t cracked. Haven’t heard of others having that problem.
I heard that the amazon cover for the DX cracks the hinge on the DX.
Thanks for the great reply. I’m gunna take a look.
@BennyBlanc0FTB
Because this works with electronic ink instead of an lcd screen. A real book is for some reason more confortable to read than off a pc screen. It’s just nicer to read. The Kindle does not use an lcd screen with backlighting and all, but instead uses high resolution eInk. It looks just like real paper, so it feels like you’re kinda like reading a real book.
I love the kindle and I need to go nuy one
Why do i want this instead of a netbook?
When you can’t zoom on the page, isn’t the text too small to read? Did you figure out why it doesn’t zoom?
Other than that- great demo, thanks.
Hey thanks for the demo. I’ve been curious about the Kindle and you told me what I wanted to know.
So how does it compare to the iREX DR800SG? can it utilize open non DRM docs? does it do Chinese characters? does it have ability to expand storage or add extra storage? lastly does it have an active tablet fature and cost under 400USD?
Hi, nice review there. One question about the font size of pdf files. Will it be too small to read? Can we zoom in the page and move it around?
No buttons on the Left hand side is that a anit -lefty feature consdiering not all people are Right handed. . .
With a Kindle DX , can I read in the dark? (does it auto backlight, or can I adjust the brightness?)
I won’t get whispernet here, but I do have a HUGE PDF collection.
aww that sux
